Expect mechanical-injection and governor drift on both SA6D140 engines before anything electronic comes into play - this is a pre-ECM machine, so injection pump and governor linkage adjustment is a wrench-and-gauge job. Turbocharger bearing wear and boost loss on either engine show up first as a power imbalance between the two power packs. At this weight class, hydraulic cylinder and swing-circuit seal leaks under the roughly 31 MPa (4550 psi) relief pressure are the most common shop calls, along with pictograph-panel lamp and buzzer circuit faults that mimic real gauge failures.

Major rebuild work centers on three areas: the twin SA6D140 blocks, each overhauled and rebuilt as its own unit rather than as a pair; the swing circuit gear and bearing under sustained face-shovel or backhoe duty; and the undercarriage, which carries a genuine 160-162 t class load despite a moderate 152-154 kPa (22-22.3 psi) ground pressure. Final drives, track rollers, and idlers see heavy wear from mining or quarry cycles and are typical overhaul candidates, alongside hydraulic pump and cylinder reseal work tied to the high-pressure circuit.

Cold-climate starts on a twin pre-ECM diesel setup mean both SA6D140 engines need reliable cold-start assist and battery capacity, since a slow-cranking second engine drags down the whole hydraulic system. In hot, dusty mining or quarry environments, radiator and oil-cooler fin cleaning and air-cleaner service move to a tighter interval than the base 250-hour card to protect two engines pulling combined cooling loads. Match hydraulic and engine oil viscosity grades to season across the 1500 L system and both crankcases, and keep coolant corrosion-resistor elements on schedule for both circuits.
