Ensure all brake adjustments are checked; if brakes engage before clutches, the machine may drive through the brakes, requiring clutch disk replacement.

Major overhaul focus should include the 4D10-5 engine components, specifically cylinder head, piston, and injection pump systems. For the transmission, rebuilds typically involve replacing planetary gear sets, clutch disks, and bevel gears. When servicing the undercarriage, evaluate track rollers (5 per side), idlers, and track shoes (13 in/330 mm) for wear limits. Rebuilding the hydraulic system requires cleaning the suction strainer and inspecting all pump assemblies.

In sandy or dusty environments, prioritize radiator shutter maintenance and frequent air cleaner inspections to prevent engine overheating. During cold weather operations, ensure the cooling system fluid (approx. 5.9 gal/22 L) is rated for low temperatures. For wet or muddy conditions, clean the undercarriage daily to prevent track tensioner damage and monitor ground pressure (approx. 5.83-5.9 psi) to maintain site stability and minimize machine sinkage.
