The PM-465 runs a mechanical Cat 3406C JWAC engine with PEEC III electronic controls, so oil analysis (S·O·S) is the primary predictive tool - sample engine oil, hydraulic oil, and each track final-drive oil at scheduled intervals to catch bearing or ring wear early. Milled asphalt and concrete dust is abrasive: watch air filter restriction gauges and hydraulic filter differential pressure closely. Monitor PEEC III fault codes for injection and timing drift, and track rotor and conveyor bearing temperatures or vibration to flag failures before a shutdown mid-job.

On the PM-465, rotor bit and holder wear is the most frequent repair - expect regular replacement of conical carbide bits chewing through asphalt or concrete, plus holder block resurfacing. The dual-stage rotor drive belt and clutch see heavy cyclic load and slip or glaze over time. Water spray nozzles clog with milling debris and need routine clearing to keep bits cooled and dust suppressed. Conveyor belt tracking, tears, and roller wear are common, and the four-track hydrostatic undercarriage needs pad and drive-motor seal work as packed millings accelerate wear.

Major PM-465 overhaul work centers on the rotor housing and gearbox, which take the brunt of milling loads and eventually need bearing and seal rebuilds along with side-plate and moldboard replacement. The 3406C JWAC engine reaches inframe-overhaul territory with injector, turbocharger, and valve-train rebuilds at high hours. Each of the four independent hydrostatic track-drive motors and pumps eventually needs a rebuild as seals and swash-plate components wear. Rotor drum shafts and bit-holder blocks often need resurfacing or replacement once base wear exceeds resharpening limits.

The 2275 L (600 gal) water/dust-suppression tank and spray lines need draining and blowing out before freezing weather to prevent cracked lines and pump housings. Radiator and aftercooler cores clog fast with airborne asphalt dust and need frequent cleaning in hot, dry milling seasons. The four-track undercarriage should be cleared of packed millings daily in wet or cold conditions to stop freeze-lock and accelerated pad wear. Cold starts on the 3406C benefit from block heaters and correct-viscosity oil; confirm coolant freeze protection before winter layup.
