Industrial Off-Highway Application
The C7 ACERT industrial engine was offered for non-road/off-highway equipment in ratings from 168–224 bkW (225–300 bhp) at 1,800–2,200 rpm, certified to China Stage II, EPA Tier 3 equivalent, and EU Stage IIIA equivalent emission standards. Equipment categories powered by the industrial C7 include bore and drill rigs, compactors, compressors, cranes, feller bunchers, forklifts, loaders, motor graders, paving equipment, pumps, skidders, and trenchers.
Oil & Gas / Well Service Application — Three Manifold Configurations
Caterpillar offered the C7 ACERT in three distinct well-service variants: Dry Manifold (168–224 bkW / 225–300 bhp at 1,800–2,200 rpm), Water-Cooled Manifold (153–224 bkW / 205–300 bhp at 2,200 rpm), and Hazardous Location (153–172 bkW / 205–230 bhp at 2,200 rpm). The C7 industrial and petroleum variants support front-of-engine PTO adapters as optional equipment, with SAE A or SAE B flange options available on the left-hand side and a right-hand twin PTO option also listed. Electronic governing and PTO speed control are available for precise auxiliary equipment management. Front PTO capability was particularly relevant for fire apparatus pump drives and oilfield skid applications.
Fluid Specifications
The on-highway C7 requires Cat DEO meeting API CJ-4 for 2007-and-later DPF-equipped units, as Cat DEO-ULS multigrade is formulated to pass proprietary piston ring sticking, oil control, wear, and soot tests alongside the API standard. Ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel is mandatory for 2007-and-later C7 engines with DPF; earlier HEUI-era engines can tolerate higher-sulfur fuel but ULSD is recommended.
