Sample hydraulic oil on the hydrostatic wheel-motor circuit; slow, high-torque reversing loads run this fluid hot and load it with wear metals faster than typical earthmoving duty. Watch fuel-dilution trends in oil samples, since injector tip O-rings harden with age and let fuel bypass into the crankcase.

Oil cooler O-ring seepage and hardened injector tip O-rings are the two most common 3116TA leaks on this paver; check both before condemning a head gasket. Auger and conveyor hydraulic motors lose case efficiency with age, and slow material flow or uneven mat feed often traces to motor slippage rather than the auger gearbox. Head-of-material paddle sensors foul with asphalt buildup and cause erratic auger cycling. Screed heater elements corrode from moisture and heat cycling and need continuity checks each season.

Track and undercarriage components wear faster than typical dozer or loader duty because the AP-1000B's hydrostatic drive does most of its work in slow, high-torque reversing cycles at the paving face. Budget undercarriage rebuilds around that duty cycle, not just hour counts. Extend-A-Mat extension-plate slides wear and lose alignment over years of screed-width changes; check for mat-thickness taper before resurfacing plates. Engine overhaul timing follows the mechanical 3116TA's injector and valve-train wear, not electronic diagnostics, so lean on oil-sample trends.

Cold starts rely on glow plugs and ether, not an ECM-managed strategy, so test both before winter paving season. Screed heater boxes and wiring take the worst of hot-cold cycling; inspect for scorched frames and corroded elements before each heating season. Switch hydraulic oil viscosity grade for temperature extremes since the hydrostatic wheel-motor drive is sensitive to cold-start cavitation. Re-check track tension after big temperature swings, and drain the fuel-water separator more often in humid or wet paving conditions.
