Cat rates the 318C's factory engine oil change interval at 250 hours, extendable to 500 hours when running Cat DEO/DEO-ULS with genuine Cat oil filters and a Cat S·O·S fluid sample program. Pull samples from the engine, hydraulic tank, swing drive, and each final drive at every oil change; TDTO wear-metal trends catch a failing final drive seal or swing bearing breakdown long before it shows up as a leak or noise. Track coolant condition against the ELC 12,000-hour/6-year change point rather than guessing.

Most 318C hydraulic complaints trace to the pilot lockout circuit, not the pump: if travel still works but boom, stick, bucket, and swing all drop out together, check the lockout lever switch and wiring before condemning anything downstream. Final drives fail more often from packed debris pushing the face seal out of its bore than from internal wear, so washing down the undercarriage after muddy or abrasive work matters. Cold, slow starts on the 3066T usually trace to weak glow plugs or a fuel-side restriction, not the ECM.

The 3066T commonly reaches full engine rebuild territory around 10,000-13,000 hours with maintained oil and fuel filtration; turbo response and injector wear show up before block failure. Swing drive and travel motor bearings run under constant heavy torque and are budgeted as expected wear items, not defects, once a machine has real hours on it. Undercarriage components (bushings, sprockets, idlers) and the swing bearing itself are the other major rebuild-cycle items; check bearing play at full boom extension before assuming hydraulics are at fault.

Cold-weather starts on the 3066T depend on functioning glow plugs; if starting aid is needed, use short one-second ether bursts during cranking, never a steady spray, and never with glow plugs still cycling hot. Hold coolant glycol at 30% minimum year-round and raise the Cat ELC/DEAC mix toward 50-60% glycol for hard freeze protection. Switch to a winter diesel blend or pour-point additive below about -9C (15F) to stop fuel filter waxing. In hot, dusty, or muddy conditions, wash down the undercarriage each shift to protect final drive seals.
